Mind it: Erotica!
“Shh..Morality! Shh.. Normality!” you must have heard
or advised or harshly charged to fall into the concept of ‘normality’ and
‘morality’ at least once in life. In reality what is this Morality? Who created
the rules and regulations? What is Normality? How can you say something ‘you
don’t agree’ is abnormal? And who are you to tell me to ‘follow your
rules’? People who’re stupid enough to think they can break the rules and free
themselves from constrains of this morality and normality of a ‘democratic country’ (seriously democratic?!)
often fall into the category of ‘the fallen angels’ and I’m glad there’s a
minority who knows and feels they’re the enlightened ones.
Everything came late to India, be it industrialization or modernization (are we really modernized? I doubt it. Or maybe partially we
are) or enlightenment (oops! We had enlightened human beings like Buddha far
before the western world even THOUGHT about it but sadly our people took a lot
of time to accept such people and even greater time to understand what they
tried conveying to the society) and wonder how long will it take us to accept “kiss
of love” to gay-lesbian relationships! (I know you just judged me! I don’t
care).
Lalithambika Anatharjanam’s Tatri kutty threw away her palm leaf umbrella, came out to the
world and shook the whole of Namboothiri community of Kerala. She is a ‘fallen
women’ or a ‘whore’ for many of you, but she is the real heroine or like
Antharjanam rightly calls ‘The Goddess of Revenge’ for many of us. It took a while
for the conservative community to accept Tatri
kutties but Smarthavicharam changed
the whole face of a traditionally bound quiet patriarchal public. Kumaran Ashan,
Malayali’s favourite love poet boldly wrote the story of Savitri Antharjanam who got married to her love, lower caste Chattan in his ‘Duravastha’ and it took a lot of time for many of us to digest it.
Arundhathi Roy’s ‘God of Small Things’ after winning the most prestigious Booker
Prize also got criticized in the middle-of-the-road societies where they found
it un-amusing to read of Ammu having
an affair with Velutha. Today when young
spirited souls kissed and hugged in public ‘protesting for love’ (Kiss of Love-
November 2, 2014, Kerala), Kerala’s most prestigious and celebrated moral
policing community had a problem. Well, my constitution allows me some personal
liberties if you didn’t know and kissing is a crime?Oh yes! Our society is culture
bound-traditional one! I remember. Our Bhakthi, Sangam poetry celebrated the idea of love. What about the many sculptures in our temples- the extreme expression of love and sexuality? Forget it. What about the four Purusharthas- dharma, artha, 'kama' and moksha? (the goals of human life according to Hinduism!) . Coming back to Indian constitution. Oh yeah, showing public affection is a crime! Enlighten me in which part
of our constitution? Wait! Are we still democratic?
Sexual orientation has been another problem. “ OMG! GAYYY?” I've heard this from a lot of
people with a spoon full of amusement, shock and revolt. What’s so abnormal
about it? Indian society has the tradition of worshiping Ardhanarishwar ( OMG the linga too)finds it sickening to talk about homosexuality. Argh!!!
What kind of people are you? In some situation you totally agree (and even
worship) it and in some other situation you totally disgust it. Homosexuality
is not a crime. (I don’t know what’s wrong with our constitution today, its 'illegal'). It is not by a person's choice that he becomes a homosexual or heterosexual
or whatever, he or she is born that way. And who created the norms of what you
call ‘normality’? What if ‘being heterosexual’ or ‘straight’ ( haha what's that?) is abnormal? I want Tim Crooks and Neil Patricks here...assert your
identity man!
From Heer and
Ranjha to Pareekutti and Karuthamma
are martyrs of love. Still we have a society that opposes love, showing affection
and even falling in love! What have we learnt from our past? What has or
history tried to teach us? What has the innumerable writers, artists and filmmakers
tried conveying to us? If a person chose not to love, hug and
kiss then another person has the exact same right to love, hug and kiss. Its all about personal choice. We
live in a 'secular- democratic country, modernized and industrialized' (ahem!) and every person has the “personal liberty” to do what he please (without creating any
problem or harm to the society. I don’t know what problem others have if two
people kiss). Moreover no person has the right to physically or verbally harm someone. If anyone had a problem with "kissing" they should gone to the court or to the police than attacking the people. I’m hopeful... time…our society needs time, to enlighten themselves,
to accept ‘abnormality’ and walk ahead! Its time to handle moral policing!!!
“ The world is born when two people kiss”. Let us wait and see when that world is gonna be accepted. Or let us not wait and show them how to kiss! :*
-These are my strong personal views, if you have a problem I can't do anything about it. Happy Reading (:
